Day 5 — The People of God

Scripture: Psalm 47:9

"The nobles of the nations assemble
as the people of the God of Abraham,
for the kings of the earth belong to God;
    He is greatly exalted.
"

The psalmist here is making references which depict the rule of Jesus Christ over the entire earth, and all of the world coming to worship the God of Abraham.

One thing to note here is "the people OF the God OF Abraham" not the people of Abraham.

This claim makes it clear that it is not the just the generations of Abraham that are God's children, but it is all people, Jew and Gentile

This is a good dual meaning,

1. It means all people have the ability to have a relationship with God

2. But it also means that we do not have a born right to a relationship with God

There is no free pass for those who are born Jew, or even born into a Jesus loving family for that matter.

We all have to decide on our own, to willingly humble ourselves and ask Jesus to be our Lord and Savior, giving up our lives for Him.

Taking up our cross each day, dying to our sins, seeking repentance, and living in Jesus grace and mercy.

With this in our hearts, we all have the ability to have a relationship with Jesus, and be able to live with Him eternally.

Galatians 3:28 states

"There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

We all have the ability to have a relationship with the God of the universe.

And we may think, "I would love to have a relationship with God, but does God really want to have a relationship with me, a wretched sinner?"

1st Peter 3:9 answers that for us

"The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."

He does not want anyone to perish, but all to come to Him, to have a relationship with Him, that they may live in relationship with Him forever, in eternity.

With that being said, praise the Lord most High, and spread the Good News to every living person, that He wants to have a relationship with everyone of us.

Reflection

What sins am I currently holding onto that are hurting my relationship with the Lord?

What is keeping me from going all in for Christ?

Prayer

Dear Lord, I first want to thank You for wanting to have a relationship with me. Throughout these psalms You have put it on my heart just how holy You are and just how much you are worthy of praise. Even though You knew I would struggle with sin, You still gave Your life for me. My life is no longer mine Lord, I owe it to You. Thank you for saving me, loving me, and wanting to have a relationship with me. Amen.

Today’s Thought

I will seek to grow my relationship in the Lord, not just today, but always.
